|For more than a quarter of a century, Yuma was the place to be married for Hollywood stars. The long line of notables having Yuma Weddings ended when Arizona adopted the pre-marital blood test law, making Arizona's law almost the same as California.
Yuma's career as the marriage capital of Hollywood started on Jan. 26, 1930, when Loretta Young and Grant Withers were married by Justice of the Peace Earl A. Freeman.
From that day on, many stars traveled to Yuma for weddings when they wanted to marry in a hurry. Freeman married so many of them that he was known as "The Marrying Judge" until he retired to go into private practice. Read More
